Stepping Drill
In this exercise use a chair to practice stepping and distancing.
Assume the front legs of the chair are the legs of your opponent. Start at a distance such that a real opponent would not be able to kick you, even if they took a step. (For these photos the distance has been reduced).
Step to the outside of the leg with the left foot. At this point, stop to make sure not too much weight is on either the front or rear leg. There should be slightly more weight on the back leg than the front.
It is also ok just to go to step 3 without stopping. This will drill the continuous step.
